DNA is a World of its Own! The Fun of Extracting DNA

DNA is everything, all that is and all that will ever be. But we did not always know what or even about this basic unit of life. Many scientist contributed to the discovery to DNA, most famous are two interesting scientists by the names of Watson and Crick. They developed a model showing the double helix structure. This single discovery has be the basic building block for great invocations throughout the generations. Understandings and curring diseases, cloning, even learning our own structure and what advantages or disadvantages our genetic material holds. The great mystery's of life revealed! The structure is refereed to as a double helix because of the spiral and the two strands which are composed of key bases that pair up on the inside of the double helix structure. These bases are known as A,G,T and C and these pair together to make up genes. A gene is a section of DNA that codes for proteins and generates the characteristics of different types of cells in your body. All the proteins made within a cell function to give the cell its traits.
The purpose of this lab was to extract our own DNA. Using a swab of our check cells we placed the cells into a container filled with lysis buffer which is used for DNA isolation. Next we put Protease into our solution to break down proteins. After incubating the tube we put alcohol into the solution which produced our desired result as we could see the DNA seperate from the rest of the solution.
Although we achieved our desired result, some possible sources of error might include and are not limited to, not putting in the appropriate amounts of solutions or buffers, not letting the solution sit long enough, or even shaking the vile too much and destroying the DNA.

  1. Very good work - give a bit more explanation of the purposes of the chemicals and tools
